Master Magician Lance Burton: he's ours and we love him
Counts from the event said upwards of 4,000 people came out to see Lance Burton perform his magic at the grand opening celebration of the City's new splash Pad Friday. Mayor Pam Hoots and the staff were over the moon at his gift to all the kids attending the celebration and back to school event and the huge crowd he attracted. Lance Burton is known internationally as one of the greatest magicians of our time, winner of numerous awards and chosen as "best magician" by readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal - for 18 years in a row!
In 1982 he won the prestigious international prize in magic - the FISM "Grand Prix" award. Lance was the youngest ever to win the prize, and was the first American to win it. He went on to star in his own show at the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Although he was raised in Louisville, his parents were from Adair County and he calls it home. Now retired, he gives back to help others every time he can just as he did for this special event. For information on the Splash Pad open hours and days, contact City Hall at 270-384-2501.
