We all have our beauty woes, and for me, it's the lower half of my face. I wasn't born with a chiselled jawline or a dainty chin, and persistent breakouts coupled with early signs of ageing (think neck lines, a double chin and the dreaded onset of jowls) have me hiding in the chunkiest turtlenecks I can find. And it seems I'm not alone, with Google searches and hashtags for 'masseter botox' and 'snatched jawline' skyrocketing.
Over the years, I've tried plenty of ineffective remedies (much to my colleagues' amusement), from laughable chin masks to fat-dissolving injections that left my face looking like a balloon.
So I turned to the experts for their top treatments for common chin, jawline or neck-related beauty issues...
Best jawline and neck treatments for 2025
For crepey skin
Treatment: Neck cream
It might seem unnecessary, but experts suggest using a dedicated neck cream, reports the Mirror. "The skin on the neck is thinner and less oily than facial skin, making it more sensitive. Add to this the fact that we move our necks a lot, and you have a recipe for rapid ageing," explains aesthetic doctor and founder of Illuminate Skin Clinics Sophie Shotter. "Look for formulas packed with peptides, hydrating ingredients, retinol (in lower percentages) and antioxidants."
She recommends Revision Skincare Nectifirm Advanced, £170, while PRAI Beauty Ageless Throat and Decolletage Creme, £28.99, is Boots' top-selling neck cream.
For sagging skin
Treatment: ULTRAcel Q+
"Ultracel Q+ utilises HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) to target and enhance drooping skin, especially around the jowls, chin and jawline," explains Nyla Raja, aesthetic doctor and founder of Dr Nyla Medispa. "It boosts collagen production by activating the body's natural healing process via controlled micro-injuries, leading to a skin-tightening effect. For mild sagging skin cases, it serves as an effective solo treatment."
But be warned: I've given it a go and it's not exactly a walk in the park (imagine a strong elastic band being repeatedly snapped against your face), but some who've undergone the treatment have reported improvements after just one session, with results lasting up to two years.
For 'tech neck' lines
Treatment: Profhilo
'Tech neck' or 'necklace' lines are those pesky horizontal creases on the neck and throat usually caused by years of craning down at phones and other gadgets. While fillers can smooth them out, this needs a gentle touch to avoid an artificial appearance, advises aesthetic doctor and founder Nina Bal, who owns and runs Facial Sculpting by Dr Nina Bal in London. "Profhilo [a hyaluronic acid-based injectable skin booster], however, is a top-notch treatment for tech neck lines as it provides deep hydration, enhances skin elasticity, and stimulates collagen and elastin production."
For jowls
Treatment: Micro-current tools and in-clinic treatments
I've noticed a slight, albeit temporary, lift and sculpting effect when I use my ZIIP Halo micro-current tool, priced at £379, in the mornings. But this isn't a long-term fix.
"Jowls are about more than just skin - they're also due to volume loss in the face and the descent of facial fat pads," explains Dr Shotter. "For lasting results, consider advanced treatments like Sofwave ultrasound to tighten the skin, dermal fillers to restore facial volume, and possibly enzymatic fat dissolving."
For blemishes
Treatment: Supplements and skincare
"Breakouts in this area are often caused by hormonal imbalances, but can also be due to ingrown hairs, perioral dermatitis or simple congestion," Dr Shotter says.
She recommends addressing this with supplements, thorough cleansing, and regular use of acids. I've started taking zinc and green tea supplements and switched my potent BHA exfoliant for a milder PHA one (Medik8 Press and Glow Daily Exfoliating PHA Tonic, starting at £9), and I've seen an improvement in my stubborn spots.
I'm also a fan of Lustre ClearSkin Solo, £63, a stick-on gadget that delivers bacteria-busting blue LED light to specific areas.
For a heavy jaw
Treatment: Botox
Those looking to achieve a smaller jawline might be intrigued to learn that Botox injections can work wonders at slimming square contours caused by an overzealous masseter muscle. This procedure is also on the rise for easing the discomfort linked with teeth clenching or grinding.
"It's important to remember that the muscle doesn't shrink overnight, just like if you stopped going to the gym, your biceps wouldn't immediately shrink," notes Dr Shotter. "But with repeated treatment, the muscles do become less prominent and can lead to a softer face shape."
And finally...
Have you heard about the current buzz around mouth taping? Yep, it's the quirky night-time trend where people are taping their lips shut before bed. Although some say it may help snuff out snoring, don't count on it chiselling a sharper jaw.
"Any type of face or mouth taping cannot provide lasting changes to the facial structure," Dr Shotter clarifies.
